The Daily Entrepreneur: Grey Lady, Idealist News and More Reid

Published March 05, 2009 @ 11:11PM PT

I did a Google image search for "IdealistNews" to find the picture for this post and the vast majority of images were giraffes. I decided not to fight it:

  • A Social Solution, Without Going the Nonprofit Rout: Terrible headline, but cool to see a New York Times primer on social entrepreneurship and the growing blended value space, complete with quote from the one and only Kevin Jones. Money quote from Sam Goldman, founder of D. Light Design on entirely replacing kerosene lamps with solar: “We could have done it as a nonprofit over a hundred years, but if we wanted to do it in five or 10 years, then we believed it needed to be fueled by profit."
  • Idealistnews.com: Idealist.org and Reddit team up to launch Idealistnews.com "social news for all things nonprofit." If it picks up traction, it could be a great way to keep track of the trends and discussions of the social benefit sector.
  • Reid Hoffman Tells Charlie Rose: "Every Individual Is Now An Entrepreneur.": Following up from yesterday's link to LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman's post on a startup stimulus, here is Reid on Charlie Rose discussing entrepreneurship, the stimulus, and the new economic reality.
