Peter Deitz hosts "Online Social Entrepreneurship" discussion on Socialedge.org

Published December 03, 2008 @ 10:51AM PST

Social Actions founder Peter Deitz is hosting a great discussion over on Socialedge about how online platforms could be better designed or leveraged to enable individuals to contribute their assets to the work of social entrepreneurs. He says:

With the exception of Kiva, MyC4, Wokai, Ideablob and a hand full of campaigns on ThePoint, there are very few opportunities online to support social entrepreneurs.

  • What would happen if ordinary people could use the Internet to seamlessly contribute to the work of social entrepreneurs in a range of ways?
  • What if ordinary people could be the arbiters of which social entrepreneurs find the right combination of creativity, connections, and capital to fulfill their world-changing missions?
  • What kinds of online tools would need to be developed to enable this sort of mass participation in social entrepreneurship?

In just a few days, a great conversation has already started to sprout. You can join it here.

Hi Nathaniel, Thanks for linking to the SocialEdge discussion.  I've been very impressed with the response.

There's a huge potential here to unlock social entrepreneurship, so it's not just a game between the big venture capitalists and entrepreneurial upstarts.

I see this discussion as the natural extension of my focus on micro-philanthropy tools in support of nonprofits.  I hope some of your readers will add a comment or two to the discussion on SocialEdge.

    All the best,
    Peter
