it is important to be a part of a collaborating community that will help in re-building a promising nation like the Philippines. if we can achieve that then we can share the process with our neighbors. it must start with individual commitments that produces results thru "bayanihan" principle.

    JUST 649 MINUTES TO SYNERGY

I invite you to journey with me in the next 52 years of my life, by and through The Press for Help Project, that I am honored and privileged to initiate.

We may or may not have met.

But you can rest assured that we had chanced upon each other one time or another long ago if not in your recent past; in the print or broadcast newsrooms, in the confabs or in the beats; in the boondocks, in the streets or in quick foreign trips.

My brand of practice is “journalism with compassion,” which our elder and younger colleagues in the profession may have or may not have heard of, but they must have practiced it just the same. Journalism with compassion has been my life and passion.

We are silent and active witnesses to changes – then, now and henceforth: sociopolitical change, economic change, climate and environmental change, cultural and spiritual change, and what-have-them.

By doing a Jon Favreau or Teddy Locsin to any President alone and having him or her utter words whose principles he or she may or may not understand or believe in, and whose programs of action the promising presidential speeches of those Rizals and Bonifacios, Aguinaldos and Quezons or Roxases may declare but may not mean nor do, we are already doing The Philippines great service, or disservice.

Sometimes we realize, albeit, belatedly, that by doing something or by not doing anything at all, we contribute wittingly or unwittingly in the state of the nation, in the state of the world or in the state of our own affairs, that once the going gets tough or rough by any standards or ethics, we then try our best to change and make it right by reviewing, criticizing and lambasting the situations in our pages and airtimes, but many times, to no avail. Many times in our unfinished histories, the call to action then becomes moot and academic, and too late to weep a sigh of relief. We, the media, and we, the people, we all suffer.

So shall we remain just witnesses to the events in times and ages to come so that we can report what happened (as-is, where-is) and do side commentaries (whenever there is a chance)? Yes (and no), but we can do more.

With The Press for Help Project, however, we do not want to change anything. We just want to ‘Be,’ and become.

By and through The Press for Help Project, we want to see in our lifetimes and beyond the “health and wellbeing of everyone” and of everything as key drivers of politics, business, civil society and faithbased sectors.

We shall see them through in our reportage, in our literature, in our pictures, in our designs, in our moving images, in our portals, in our performances, in our teachings and in our notebooks, and other myspace and yourspace.

A “journalist” (it’s you), in my book, happens to be any one or all of the above qualities with character: a reporter, a writer, an editor, a columnist, a broadcaster, a photographer, an artist, a filmmaker, a videographer, a performer, a webby, a teacher, a student, a (multimedia) hobbyist and a blogger.

Now a weblogger can be a publisher, a producer, an actor and a reader, a watcher or a listener, and reviewer and critic – all at the same time in one media-savvy buddy that can do social networking with billions of people around the world and with 200 million websites to play with (year 2009), faster than the speed of thought.

We need help, to help ourselves, to help each other, to help others, so that they can help others to develop their full potentials.

It’s a whole new way of selfhelpness towards selflessness in order to achieve agelessness towards greatness.

If you cared to spare a minute of your day for this, salinakayo! Otherwise, just do your thing, as usual, even as I shall remain all yours…

    Faithfully,

    Marc Guerrero
