Donate Your Old Phone to Hope Phones
What if your old phone could change the world? With Hope Phones, a new campaign by FrontlineSMS:Medic, you can.
Hope Phones takes recycled phones and puts them to work on the front lines of global health. Using basic phones, simple laptops and the free software called FrontlineSMS, any rural health clinic can better keep track of patient records, enable mobile field diagnostics, and open better communication between community health workers and the home clinic.
One donated phone can bring anywhere from 50-250 families onto the health grid.

This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

IN A THIRD WORLD VILLAGE, A PERSON CAN ACTUALLY MAKE A LIVING BY HAVING A CELL PHONE AND CHARGING OTHERS A NOMINAL FEE FOR USING IT. THESE ENTERPRISING INDIVIDUALS CAN GET MICRO LOANS TO BUY A CELL PHONE. IMAGINE THAT, BEING SO POOR, YOU HAVE TO TAKE OUT A LOAN TO BUY A CELL PHONE. AND THEN YOU BECOME A BUSINESS PERSON BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE EVEN HAS A CELL PHONE IN YOUR WHOLE VILLAGE.

Happy to do so--what an easy way to help global health equity in this throw-away society we live in!
Sandra Indacochea @ 08:35AM PT Jun 09
For me its important because instead of giving it away or give it to a telephone company to be refurbished and sell again in the third world, you can recycle your old phone and help others.
r s holmen, WI @ 08:29AM PT May 18
